Today Chigwell Row is a small village in Epping Forest in Essex situated some 20 miles north east of London, but back in the middle of the 19th century it held races. The first record of a meeting was on Tuesday 9th July 1844 when a 3 race programme included two Sweepstakes and a concluding pony race. The opening Sweepstake was won by Mr Waterage’s Dr Webb, while a second Sweepstakes was won by Hazard. The final record of a meeting was on Tuesday 3rd August 1847.
